22 January 2013 - Little Kwara Camp, Okavango Delta

Same routine here, wake up call at 5. We headed up to the mess hall for a light breakfast and just behind the camp a herd of giraffe were grazing in the mist. A gorgeous site, really brought home that you were in Africa.

Very early morning breakfast

Off on our morning safari at 6. We saw more lions, a leopard run by very quickly but couldn't catch on film. Giraffe, elephant, zebra, kudu, impala, lion, hippo, monkey, birds, wildflowers. Looked for cheetahs but no luck. Back to camp at 11. Light brunch then siesta.

We spent our siesta at the pool & in the lounge, a bit cooler than the cabin.

This afternoon's safari was a boat trip around the delta. We left at 4.30. The boat was a small alumunium boat with a viewing platform and a small canopy for some shade but it was very hot. Once we got under way we saw lovely water lilies, hippos, a croc & some birds. The breeze off the water was lovely and cooling.

On the boat, very hot...

Arrived at the Moremi nature reserve after an hour to view birds & their chicks. It's the end of the breeding season so there weren't a huge number of birds but enough to watch for an hour or so. We had our sundowner drinks on board then headed back to camp.

Stork

Another amazing sunset which meant there were a lot of insects on the water. It was a fast boat ride, the insects were slamming into your face. We all had to cover up so as not to ingest any...However it was a fun ride back.

Sunset

A small wooden bridge had had a major beam come adrift since we'd driven over it earlier so Master had to improvise by driving through some unknown water in the dark. Thankfully we had a spotlight. All good fun, we arrived back at camp O.K.

A new British couple had arrived so we heard some more stories from other camps.

Bed about 11.
